From December until May, Trevally and Kingfish are known to populate the area, and big snappers are also known to appear between November and June - though not in large groups and not in any particular place. Gurnard, Kawhai and Dogfish can also be caught throughout the year. Along the beach there is a picnic area at Rimmer Road and a shipwreck just north of that. If you keep travelling north alongside the cliff face you start to get some nice sized snapper. The further north toward South Head you go, the bigger they get. It’s a perfect place for somebody looking for a new location. Organising a boat hire in Auckland and travelling from Manukau Harbour out west gets you easy access to the Muriwai beach and some of the best fishing in the area. Exploring the waters and slowly making your way up toward South Head will get you more than a few good days fishing.
