"The Karate uniform, or Karate gi as it is also known, is a traditional white outfit worn by those who practice the martial art of Karate and similar sports. It is made up of pants and a top, as well as a belt that is tied a specific way at the waist. For the most part, what makes the gi stand out from the similar, Judogi that Judo artists wear, is the weight which is exceptionally less hefty. The heaviest Gi is 16 oz, but the Judogi weigh is at about 35 oz. Weight of the suit is also, often chosen based on weight of the practitioner. These suits come in three main cuts which are known as the Kata, European, and Japanese. The Kata is the rarest form of all three styles and it's primarily selected for the fashionable look it provides, its jacket has the shortest sleeves of all three options. Though these ensembles have traditionally come in white, there are several different color options available to today's practitioners. Some clubs will select different colors of uniform in order to distinguish practitioners from trainers. Those who partake in this martial art have been wearing some version of the Karate uniform for years. There are several different forms of martial art out there and nearly all have a traditional ensemble that is in some way similar to the gi. The martial arts are many times practiced and studied for years, starting when a student is very small and lasting well into adulthood.
