Do you have large windows or glass doors that don’t allow you any privacy? Does your room feel unfinished because of the lack of window treatments? If so, this project is perfect for you. It is amazingly simple, and can completely transform the feel of a room. You can choose bright, bold patterned fabric, or simple monochromatic fabric, whatever fits your personality. This project should take only a couple hours and you will be very happy with the finished product. Materials you’ll need: • Two to four panels of fabric, depending on how many you want. Cut the fabric to the correct window length, plus a foot extra to allow for shrinkage and seams. • Sewing machine • Thread to match your fabric • Iron and ironing board • Sewing needles and pins • Fabric scissors • Wrought iron curtain rods Before going shopping for fabric, measure the length of the windows/doors that you wish to cover, and add an extra foot to that measurement. Also determine the number of panels you need. Be very precise in recording your measurements. At the fabric store, choose the fabric that you think compliments your space best. Inform an employee of your needed measurements and have him cut your fabric out in panels, instead of one long piece. This will save you the hassle of measuring and cutting them yourself. Wash your fabric before working with it. It will make the fabric easier to work with, and it will also shrink. Iron your fabric to release any wrinkles. Fold the side and bottom edges of your fabric over to the side that will not be shown, about an inch will do. Iron these folds to keep them in place. Sew these hems with a strait stitch to give your panels a finished look. Lastly, fold the top of the curtain over so there’s enough room to slide your wrought iron curtain rods through. Iron that fold, and then sew it in place with a strait stitch. This completes your first panel! Simply repeat these steps with the remaining panels and hang your finished product!
