Medical Transcriptionist are the people who do the work of listening to recordings that are made by the healthcare professionals and then convert them into a medical report or the other formats that they are asked to make. The normal procedure of conversion of a recording is by listening to it through a headset and pausing by a foot pedal as and when required. The transcriptionist then types down the transcriptions of the recordings into a word processor on his/her personal computer. If the documents are approved only then do they form a part of the patients file that will come in use for future evaluation of the patient’s health. In order to become a Transcriptionist one must possess a good knowledge of medical terminology as this is very commonly used and misinterpreting a single word can cause a lot of problem for the patient as a wrong diagnosis can be prescribed even if one word has been wrongly interpreted. The transcriptionist should be well versed with things like pharmacology, physiology and anatomy. All the subjects require a good knowledge as lack of any could turn to severe consequences. The transcriptionist should possess an ability to interpret and translate the medical terminology and the abbreviations that are used into full-forms. This is to be done, so that they are able to comprehend and transcribe the reports that are given to them in a clear and understandable format. Transcriptionist make use of the electronic and printed materials. They should know how to use the latest technology as this will help them in the preparation of the reports in a better and quick way. This will also help them in giving their work on time as preparation of the reports by using electronic means is faster and they would be able to deliver more work and that too in a less span of time. A transcriptionist has certain rules that he has to adhere to while the preparation of the transcripts. They have to stick to the format that they have been prescribed and not deliver things as and what they like. The rule of each and every territory differs and they have to confirm the legal aspects that come within the territory. A lot of care has to be taken when it comes to dealing with medical transcripts.
