Around thirty years ago, watching a movie was considered a mark of class and privilege. Going to the movie house is expensive, and it is reserved for the upper class, much like watching a play was reserved for the wealthy. People enjoyed the movies they liked at a reasonable price. Renting was sufficiently gratifying even if they didn’t own the copies. With more people being able to afford going to the theater and buying copies of the films now, movie renting has become a diminishing business. Hence, movie rentals have moved on to conducting business on the Internet to survive. Some online retailers have rentals as an option for customers who might not necessarily want to own a lot of copies. Meanwhile, there are movie streaming websites that require viewers to pay to view certain videos; this is similar to renting as they are unable to download the files. It is practically electronic rentals. There are rentals for disc copies too, but buying them in the same stores as audio CDs is more popular. Copies on VCDs are generally cheaper, and most people can afford these. They do not mind having to buy VCDs, especially when they like better video quality after seeing online movies free.
