Anime is a type of animated film that originated in Japan. Supposedly, cartoons under this particular genre must come from said country alone. However, some anime shows these days are developed from other countries. It also has types which are categorized according to their themes. One of the most adored anime genres is called mecha where robots make up the largest percentage of the show or movie. It has gone its way through history targeting children as its primary audience, although there are adults who patronize such anime as well. The term came from the Japanese word “meka” which was derived from the English word mechanical. The term is also used in Japan to address anything that involves machinery such as computers, automobiles, or even appliances. Mecha has two subtypes. First is the Super Robot where robots are treated more as heroes than weapons. It often follows a plot where three or more human characters each control a vehicle which, when combined, forms a giant robot. Some examples of such storyline include Voltes V, Mazinger Z, and Voltron. However there are Super Robot mecha anime that have one lead character to maneuver the entire robot such as Daimos. Robots from this genre usually are not formed by separate vehicles. Instead, the robot transforms by twisting and altering some of its parts. One example of a western mecha is Megas XLR where three teenagers fight an alien race using a gigantic robot to save humanity. As you watch anime movies under the mecha genre, not only do you learn to appreciate art and improve your creative thinking, but you also understand the Japanese culture even more. There are also other genres of anime you can watch besides mecha. These genres include Sentai, Shojo, and Shonen. Anime is best enjoyed when watching it with friends and family.
