Probably the single most popular sports drink on the market, Gatorade is something that doesn't keep getting cooler in the commercials. Gatorade flavors keep getting better and better. And the new G series has topped the charts with exciting new flavors that will make you want to become an athlete. Remember when... Gatorade was originally created around the mid-1960s. Originally, only lemon lime and orange were available and the mix was created actually from a powder. Fruit punch was added about 15 years after the product was introduced. In the early 1990s, the original series of Gatorade flavors was completed with the addition of the final three original flavors before the Frost series was introduced. Frost Around 1997, the famous Frost series of Gatorade flavors was introduced. Alpine Snow, Glacier Freeze, and Whitewater Splash formed the trio that would become probably some of the most popular flavors of Gatorade for nearly the next decade. These three would go on to become staples in the Gatorade Series and incredibly popular. Even today, the Frost series can be seen on shelves alongside the original flavors. Ice to Rain to No Excuses: After those, in 2002, a few more staples were introduced, though these were not as overwhelmingly popular as the Gatorade Ice flavors. These were translucent colored flavors in strawberry, lime, orange, and watermelon. The new orange was different and much lighter in taste than the original. These four formed what were called the Gatorade Ice flavors. Ice changed to Rain and the flavors offered were a little altered as well. These were later changed to No Excuses. G2: 2007 brought the newest additions to the Gatorade series, and these proved to be able to stand very well on their own. These lighter flavors were called G2. Seven flavors were produced in the G2 line. Orange was yet again re-invented in an even lighter way. And lemon lime was retouched. Strawberry-kiwi, grape, blueberry pomegranate and the ever popular glacier freeze flavor were added to these. G2 proved to be the biggest seller of Gatorade yet, and soon became a type of drink all its own. It stood up even against the original flavors of Gatorade. Since then, other flavors and directions have been taken with Gatorade, but G2 remains the most popular. Gatorade has come a long way in literally half a century.
