The ultra fine is also good but it does not give the durability of the super fine. It is mostly used in high fashions and baby wears where durability is not required. It is said that base layers made in China are made from poor quality of merino fibers because they mix it with some synthetic fiber or they include short fibers to be spun to make the cost of production cheaper. This is why some base layers made from merino fibers are still itchy. On the other hand base layers from New Zealand textile dyers use a special process developed exclusively for merino which does not cause the fabric to become brittle. So when choosing your base layer, as much as possible avoid the one that are made from China. I’m not saying that all of their products of this kind are made from poor quality material but there is a possibility that the ones that you will choose might be of these kind.
