Despite the ever rising fuel prices, flatbed trucking companies are here to stay. That's because, say experts, of the ease of loading and unloading goods from these trucks. The trucks offer a convenience others cannot. The trucks are so named because the trailer portion of the truck has no roof or sides to it. Rather, the trailer is flat. This type of bed is ideal for easily and quickly loading and unloading goods from the rear and from the sides of the trailer. As convenient as these are, however, there are certain drawbacks to using them. In general, only durable goods, the type that can endure exposure to the elements during export can be hauled on them. Fortunately, many goods hauled fit this description. There are also two different types of these: rigid and articulated. The rigid kind, probably the most common type, pulls a flat bed, or body, mounted on axles. The body is stationary, meaning that it has no mechanical functions to enable it to tilt to aid in unloading the bed. This sturdiness makes it perfect for hauling heavy materials such as concrete blocks and construction equipment. Articulated trucks also pull a flat body mounted on axles. However, these types pull a body that is equipped with mechanisms that allow it to tilt or retract when needed (think of the action of a dump truck). The articulated kind can transport the same types of goods as do the rigid type. However, the articulated type are best used for heavy goods that need eased off of the bed of the truck rather than lifted off. There are a lot of different types of trucks and companies; however, flatbed trucking companies are here to stay. The ease with which good are loaded and unloaded makes them indispensable in the transportation industry.
