If you are planning to purchase and electric generator but you do not have any idea on what type would be the best for you to buy, here is a quick overview of what to look out for when purchasing them. The first thing that should come into your mind is, do you really need an electric generator? I’m not telling you not to buy, but do you really need to have this one? While it is always nice to have the latest and the greatest, it is even nicer to have the money for the mortgage, rent, food, or an incessant electric bill. So before you spend that hard earned money of yours, just ask yourself one simple question, is it really necessary? You have to weigh your needs and spend appropriately. When looking for an electric generator always check the amount of wattage. You must properly balance the amount of watts that you will be using with the generators load capacity. The easiest way to do is to look at the individual appliances for smaller generators, and add them all up. Figure out which items need to be run at all times and those that can be rotated. For larger appliance or items that are not easily gauged, try looking at your gear box to determine how much power you use on a regular basis. The type of fuel that you use can affect the amount of wattage you produce, and therefore the amount that you will be looking for from the offset. A 10.5 kilowatt generator will only give you about 9.5on propane and a mere 8.5 on natural gas. As such you have to take this decrease into consideration when you are making your wattage tally. If you are living in California you might as well look out for the generator’s carbon emission. They have the highest level of restriction from all the states. There are generators that are being made that don’t pass the emission levels regulation so watch out for them. Also remember that the lesser the carbon emission the lesser it adds to the pollution. Also check the lubrication with a spin on oil filter because it prolongs the engine life two to three times longer and cuts down on maintenance as well. There are obviously numerous factors to take in consideration when buying an electric generator, but hopefully what you have read here has helped you make your decisions. Learn more about Electric
