Real Steel is a movie that seems to have a rather daft theme, that of boxing robots. One question that many people who will see this movie will wonder is why make a movie on this topic. If you are going to make a movie about robots there seems to already be a successful formula out there so why move away from it. Make a movie with robots destroying a city and you will make a fortune, just like Transformers did. When the movie begins it has a Michael Bay feel to it. We see the star of the movie, Hugh Jackman, driving to a county fair where he fights with his robot for peoples entertainment. If we are quite honest the movie doesn't really seem to make a whole lot of sense, but it makes more sense than anything else Michael Bay has made recently. It also does have some great fight scenes, such as when Jackman's robot fights, and loses to, a bull. After his robot being crippled by the bull he goes back to his gym where he trains and then runs into his son who he has not seen in years. He finds out that his sons mother has died and that he now needs someone to look after him. Fortunately he has a rich aunt and uncle and they want to take care of the child. Unfortunately they were leaving the country so Jackman actually has to spend time with his son, but in return for this huge effort the rich uncle buys him a new fighting robot. The movie is daft and anyone who has seen or heard about a film will be able to predict what comes next. The son bonds with the father, then near the end of the movie the son finds out about the robot deal. What actually happens is quite different and this kind of change from the predictable makes the movie just interesting enough to be enjoyable. The story really follows the son Max as he is the one that finds the new robot. Together the son, Jackman, and the robot find success as the robot is able to mimic the fighting moves of Jackman. What is great about the movie is that it is clearly targeted towards children and this is something that the producers of Transformers didn't do. They targeted towards adults who never actually grew up and Real Steel is a nice reminder that children's movies can actually be enjoyable when they are made for children of all ages. Adults will still enjoy this film though as it is one that has funny jokes and likeable characters, even the story line is quite engaging. The movie is long at two hours, but it on occasion, it doesn't ever feel too long as there is always something happening. The audience is always seeing something, such as how the robot is developing and becoming a fighting champion, or we are seeing how Jackman turns from loser into a decent dad. This movie isn't perfect but it is certainly worth a watch. Watch Movies Online
