Clive Owen and Jason Statham somehow have an amazing ability to make even the most mundane of films somehow strangely entertaining. Let's take Death Race for example; the film is utterly absurd and should be terrible but somehow, Statham has such an aura of cool that you can't help but like the character and almost enjoy the movie. The same is somewhat true of Clive Owen in The International, the movie is less silly than Death Race but still hardly a brilliant piece of cinematography. Clive Owen in it though with his very unusual character makes it somewhat enjoyable. Despite these remarkable abilities neither of them, however, manages to make Killer Elite bearable at all. The film is just so terribly made that neither of these two actors can pull it out of the muck. It even has Robert de Niro in it and while this was once an indicator that a movie was worth watching now it means nothing at all – maybe in fact that it is actually not worth seeing. The film follows the true story of a ring of British spies, the problem is that the film is just filled with so much pointless action and violence that the plot is completely lost. Gary McKendry is the writer and director of this pointless production and he tries and lets us know in a prologue, that is a complete waste of time and energy, that the characters played by Statham and de Niro have real human emotions and a father-son relationship. The prologue is unnecessary, but could be bearable if Mr McKendry has even a gram of story-telling ability. The plot of the movie is basically that De Niro is captured and is being held for ransom. Statham must rescue him but when he tries he fails in a terrible way, and has no choice but to meet the demands of the kidnappers who insist that he go to England and kill some people who upset the kidnappers. Not exactly a brilliant plot. When Statham arrives in England his killing of people starts to upset a clandestine group who want to get some sort of revenge on Statham and stop him killing more people. This group send out one of their younger members, played by Owen, to go and deal with Statham, and this is what makes up most of the movie; Statham being hunted by Owen. The rest of the movie is somewhat predictable and something that fans of action movies will have seen dozens of times before. There is a rooftop chase, mysterious phone calls and well planned and executed hits. It is nothing special and what most people have probably come to the cinema to see does not happen until the last half hour. This last section is where Statham and Owen do what they do best – the kick each other in the face repetitively and insult each other. Both of these actors are great at doing this and it is not disappointing. Watch Movies Online
