Noel Gallagher is the rock and roll legend who was the singer/songwriter in the multi-million pound Britpop band that was Oasis. Unfortunately, due to an extremely strenuous relationship with his band mate and brother, Liam Gallagher, they broke up. Noel is no stranger to singing solo, having done many small acoustic gigs alone. The band enjoyed massive success and were the sound of the 90’s, along with bands like Blur, The Verve, Pulp and many others. They had some fantastic hits with songs like ‘Slide Away’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ and ‘Wonderwall’, and, funnily enough, all of these songs were written by the same man; Noel Gallagher. Not only did they release great singles but they also produced fantastic albums right up until their last release before their split – ‘Dig Out your Soul’ was a blend of classic Oasis style with a slight 70’s twang. It isn’t just Noel Gallagher’s music that makes him such a great iconic figure in music; it is his general demeanour, whit and charm as well. However, he did cause a bit of a ruckus a few years ago during the Glastonbury Music Festival. During this particular year it was Jay-Z who was headlining the festival on the main stage. Noel then came out and said that hip-hop had no place at such a festival, which massively angered the hip-hop community and some questioned whether Noel Gallagher was perhaps even racist. However, it was Jay-Z who had the last laugh, as his opening song was a cover of the Oasis classic ‘Wonderwall’. He did this quite subtly and got the whole crowd to join in singing until he then dropped his own hits and made the audience go absolutely wild. Noel Gallagher’s new album is titled ‘High Flying Birds’. Many have criticized it already for basically sounding exactly like Oasis – something which would be hard to avoid considering he was the life and soul of the band and wrote most of the songs. Other sources have praised it greatly and one magazine is even quoted as saying it ‘reminds us that Noel is one of the best singer/songwriters this country has ever produced’. And the question is really, who doesn’t want more of Oasis? They have millions of fans worldwide who were absolutely devastated when they disbanded and they would all certainly love to hear more of Noel’s great music and talented song writing.
