Right now, adverts for the new Nintendo 3DS are being broadcast all over the UK, with at least one playing per day on almost every TV channel. Many people have commented on how the new 3DS looks a lot like previous versions, but if these were your first thoughts when you saw the console advertised then maybe it’s time you had a rethink. Nintendo have always stressed that there is more to games than amazing graphics, creating similar but blockbuster games with guns galore. You will notice that Microsoft and Sony are now offering alternative variations on motion gaming, which is surely a sign that innovation is key to staying ahead of the game. First up, when using the 3DS you can decide for yourself just how 3D you want your game to look with the handy slider position just on the side of console. This is because Nintendo understand that some games work and look better in 3D than others. It isn’t simply a visual thing, playing games in 3D really does offer a whole new dimension to gaming. A perfect example of this would be one of the launch games, ‘PilotWings’. In this game you fly around a little plane in the land that Wii Sports events occur. With 3D you can really use depth perception to improve how you fly your plane. The 3D that is talked about when discussing the 3DS is more looking into as opposed to jumping out of the screen. As is Nintendo’s style they also have a couple of classic game remakes available for purchase, one of which being the formidable RPG title ‘Zelda: Ocarina of Time’.
