Web TV programs are often independent productions that showcase the creative talents of a small and tight-knit group of people who may occupy more than one responsibility in the production. Many of these programs gain about as much recognition from consumers as traditional TV series. Some Web TV programs become so popular that they are picked up by television broadcasting networks and are aired on television for a wider range of audience. Alternatively, there are established actors that produce their Web TV series to showcase their full talent without being held down by pigeonholing. Web TV programs are often light and have fast-paced plots; some use humorous deconstruction of established trends in television screenwriting. Internet television is more recognizable as it is called; it is a system of television broadcasting via the Internet. Television networks have used the Internet as a new medium by building their own websites or coming in partnership with websites that provide services for video streaming. This may be aired as live television or “video on demand,” meaning the video remains available for viewing on the Internet after it has already been broadcast on television. Many of these programs, episodes, and video clips are available for seven days or so, after being shown on the television. Broadcasting rights also affect the availability of the video clips. Copyrighted material may be available only in selected regions. This is true for Internet television programs, selected Web TV programs, and music videos that are streamed in video websites. Music videos and some TV programs may be purchased or rented from online retailers for download or streaming. This way, Internet users may enjoy their TV shows either on their computers or their portable music and video players. However, many streaming websites allow users to watch TV shows online free of charge but usually for only a limited time.
