Playing poker doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Actually it doesn’t have to cost a thing. Several poker sites offer free poker tournaments, where you can win real money. These free poker tournaments are often known as poker freerolls. Why are these poker tournaments free to enter? There are several reasons why the poker sites offer these freerolls, and I won’t name them all here but just the three reasons I consider the most important from the perspective of the Poker Sites. First it is a way to create good will between the high stakers, who crush the games. These Poker Freerolls often have huge prize pools. Second there are the freerolls used to keep existing players at their site. These freerolls often have a reasonable prize pool and are restricted to players who already had joined real money games. Third there are the ‘no restriction’ freerolls. These are mostly used to attract new players. These poker freerolls have relative small prizes but on the other hand they don’t cost anything to enter. Being a beginner in online poker is a risky business - especially if you deposit money. You need to play aggressive and take big chances when you have the possibility to double, triple or even quadruple. This is extremely important in the beginning of a freeroll. When you have made your doubles just tighten up and play straight forward poker. This will give you two advantages: You have a bigger stack and the other players consider you as a maniac, while you play like tight aggressive nit.
