Mobile marketing can be defined as the process by which marketing is carried out through a mobile or cellular device. This type of marketing can also be referred to as cellular marketing. This form of marketing can be low cost depending on the type of advertisement used. Depending on the marketing budget, one is able to choose what kind of marketing strategy to use. For tight budgets, one can choose the localized marketing option whereby the marketer limits the location to which they target their marketing promotions. This allows the marketing program to be personalized to the target audience within the chosen location. Depending on the mobile marketing mode used, this form of marketing can reach a wider range of audience compared to mainstream methods. This is because it is not limited by location or time which ensures that a wide and varied target market can be reached. With this form of marketing one is able to focus on a target market depending on the mobile devices in the market. This can be done through the use of marketing messages that can only be received by holders of certain mobile phone models for example those having an iPhone. Focusing on the market can also be via use of marketing forms like Multi Media Service (MMS) which is only functional in certain cellular phones. With this form of marketing, the marketer is able to interact actively with the target audience through business codes through which the audience can send text messages allowing the market to follow up on the intended clients. Depending on what form of marketing used, it is possible to have no cost billed to the marketer as seen when the marketing is done via Bluetooth or infrared. In this form of marketing the customer is given the opportunity to decide on which messages to receive and when through subscription services that can be incorporated into the marketing strategy. This marketing also allows the target audience to link directly to the marketer’s online marketing promotions for example their website or social networking forum as seen when it is carried through mobile web marketing. It also allows for marketing in a fun manner as seen with the in – game form of marketing. This is a good form of marketing when the marketer is dealing with products suitable for certain phone types for example if they are dealing with accessories for a certain phone model their marketing message can be sent to those specific phone models.
