Most people enjoy watching birds and other creatures bounding around in their backyards. By placing garden bird feeders around the yard you will be able to watch as they gather to get nourishment from the food you have provided. Bird feeders offer an open invitation to a dinner party for birds. No birds that I know could ever pass up the chance for a free meal. For your invitation to be more enticing, you should always consider the location, style, height and your own patience. The first thing to consider when placing garden bird feeders on or around your property is what the most suitable place is for them. Birds are naturally drawn to trees, in part because they have some camouflage that is needed when hiding from predators. If you place your bird feeders out in the open, you will not attract as many birds. Another location to avoid is high traffic areas where you or your pets normally travel. Birds do not like being bothered or feel threatened while they are dining. You may want to place at least one of your garden bird feeders close to a bird bath so that they will be near a good water supply. The next consideration would have to be the height at which you will be placing your garden bird feeders. When using a pole to position your bird feeders, remember that you will need it a minimum of 5 to 6 feet off the ground. This is generally sufficient enough for most birds. The same height is also recommended when using a tree to hang your bird feeders from. Be sure to use a durable material that will not allow other small animals like squirrels to chew through and knock your feeders down. The style you choose for your garden bird feeders will typically be selected according to the types of birds that are in your area. If you want to attract hummingbirds, you will have to provide bird feeders that are specifically designed for them. Other types of birds feed primarily on nuts or large seeds; if this is the type you are going to be feeding the style will have to be substantially different than one that a hummingbird would frequent. Be sure that you are familiar with the types of foods that your birds will be able to add into their diets before you set up your bird feeders. With the wide variety of garden bird feeders and the wide variety and types of guests that you could invite to come dine, there are an amazing number of things to consider when you are selecting the right bird feeders for your yard. You want to make sure that you have selected the best place to make your guests feel comfortable, and at the same time you will want to discourage intruders like pesky squirrels. When you do place your garden bird feeders at a height that is desirable for the birds that will be taking meals at your home, be sure that they are not so high that you cannot reach to refill them. When you have everything right with your bird feeders, just sit back and relax and enjoy the view.
