PART 9 IS THE WAY OF COURTSHIP GOD’S PATHWAY TO PERFECT MARRIAGE? Courtship is a phase before marriage many believe to be a normal period for two young people, man and woman having found themselves mutually attracted and happy to be together to get intimately acquainted with each other. It is not a normal period but spiritually and naturally an abnormal phase foreign to the scriptures. It is the spiritual that really controls the natural. In this article we shall render proofs and give reason that it’s been the major cause of unhappy marriages and subsequent divorce all over the world. Marriage is meant to be Holy and those who gain entrance into it must be Holy as God Who instituted and established it. There should be no blame or blemish, no defilement or sin in the love life of husband and wife who reverently love themselves and remember that they belong to each other, to the Body of Christ and to God. The scripture states in Matthew 18:16 that before anything is established, there must be two or three witnesses. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. Let us examine the perfect marriages in the scriptures whether there were traces of courtship. We shall take case studies of five perfect marriages from the scriptures as five witnesses to be fully persuaded that there should be no courtship as God’s pathway to perfect marriage. A] Adam and Eve B] Isaac and Rebecca C] Ahasuerus and Esther D] Joseph and Mary E] Jesus Christ and the Church Adam and Eve. We have repeatedly mentioned in previous chapters that marriage is an institution created by God and there are pre-requisite conditions laid down by God we must fulfill in order to enter into God’s perfect will in marriage. Marriage was not instituted by the traditions of men. In fact, marriage is the only institution created before the fall of man. It is one of God’s first handiworks. The scripture reveals in Genesis 2:7 that God formed man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. He then planted a garden eastward and kept man to dress and keep it. The scripture showed that God brought all the things He created to Adam to give a name. This was Adam’s ministry, a prophetic ministry because the scripture stated that all the names he gave to those creatures are what they bear till date. Adam was not disobedient to this calling but worked diligently in the service of the Lord. He was a living soul; that is his spirit was fully in control of his soul in that those names he gave to the creatures’ of God actually came from God Himself. There was a free flow of spiritual information from God into his spirit which flowed into his soul that enabled him to declare and give names to every creature God brought before him. The scripture remarkably revealed that Adam finished with that assignment but he was yet to have his helpmeet. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. Genesis2:20 KJV. Then, there was no evidence of Eve at the Garden of Eden though God had plans to create them male and female. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27KJV God had what it takes to create Eve along side with Adam but He chose to create Adam first and gave him a special ministry. Adam finished the job and kept himself busy in the affairs of the garden before he was qualified to have a helper. One who is not busy does not need a helper. Here is a short illustration to show the position of man in this matter. Graphically we have two lines crossing each other. The meeting point which is the center is called Zero. The horizontal line is the X axis which runs to the right and left of the centre O. The vertical line is the Y axis which runs up and down of the center O. The man at the zero position is the man created in the image of God described as a living soul. He is expected under God’s command to dress God’s Garden and to keep it thus he moves out of the zero rating, identifies and takes off with the work of his ministry. At this move, he is deemed to have begun to score positive points according to his diligence in service and obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit. His efforts are marked at the right hand lane of the X axis. Assuming he was at +1 that is the very beginning of his ministry, he grows to maturity with much diligence and is rated +2. The scripture describes him as yet a half man. Here he is considered qualified to have the bone of his bones and the flesh of his flesh. The Holy Spirit fetches him his wife and does the joining according to the will of God. It is often observed that the two, that is the man and his wife work together to make great exploits for the Lord. Here she helps him increase positively in every facet of his life especially in the fulfillment of his ministry. The scripture in Deuteronomy 32:30 states: How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up? Deuteronomy 32:30KJV. On the contrary, the man who is rated in the negative that is scored -1 is at the left side of the X axis and is one who is yet to identify his ministry or work with the Lord. He is not qualified to have the bone of his bones and the flesh of his flesh and so if he goes out and picks a woman as a wife she does not belong to him. It is noteworthy to mention here that the woman is created to be a Helper. All that God imparted in the woman is to help the man. As such the man who is in the negative and joined to a wife often experience retrogression in all facets of his life. The fact remains clear that the woman is certainly going to discharge her ministry that is to help him increase negatively. God has created the woman a helper to help the man either increase positively or negatively. Most times men go about troubling the women and put all the blame on them that they had caused the problems. God’s judgment is different. God holds the man responsible for every problem faced by the family or the world caused by a woman. For if he had fulfilled the required conditions expected of him, he would have been given the bone of his bones and the flesh of his flesh in order to enjoy the favors, harmony, peace and love expected of a perfect home. When Eve sinned God put the blame on Adam for he is made the head of his wife. In the formation of a fetus in the womb of the woman as a result of conception, it is noticed that God created the head first, fixed the eyes, nostrils, ears, mouth and the central nervous system to coordinate the sensory organs all in the head. Thereafter parts of the body emerge gradually until full term. In normal delivery, the head comes out first. This is the principle and pattern of life. He must dress the garden and keep it. MEN WHO STILL LIVE IN A WORLD OF IGNORANCE ARE TO BE PITIED!!!!!! In Genesis 2:18 the scripture states: And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Genesis 2:18KJV The mystery about the formation of Eve is revealed in Genesis 2:21-23: And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD GOD had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. There was no courtship or anything that suggests courtship. God joined them together and they became one great family on earth. Isaac and Rebecca. In the case of Isaac and Rebecca there was no sign of courtship in the process. The scripture reveals in Genesis 24:62-67 : And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahai-roi; for he dwelt in the south country. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. And Rebecca lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebecca, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death. Genesis 24:62-67KJV. Isaac took advantage of the silent evening and solitary field for meditation. Rebecca behaved herself very becoming when she met Isaac, having received every information from the eldest servant, about who he was. The scripture revealed that she lighted off the camel and took a vail, and covered herself. Rebecca did this as a token of humility, modesty and subjection. There was no courtship. Isaac did not excuse Rebecca for a moment to create a period of courtship but took her into his mother’s tent to stay together for their mutual comfort. The scripture revealed that Isaac was so affectionate to his mother such that when Rebecca appeared he transferred that same affection even more to her and so he was comforted. This is wonderful.
