How to Make Your First Beaded Bracelet

Crafts
Making your own jewelry is so much fun and when you wear it and receive compliments it really does make you feel so good. The only thing holding a person back in making their own jewelry is imagination because it can be so cheap to do and there are endless ideas you can experiment with.

How to Make Your First Beaded Bracelet

Requirements:

2 x 75cm strips of elastomas (this is an elastic thread for beading)

1 jump ring and 1 bolt ring (to form the clasp)

Scissors

Sufficient beads to thread onto the two strips of elastomas.

With the beading there are several ideas but this time it is best to keep the beads on the small size due to the style we are creating. Here are some thoughts on how to thread a 2 strand bracelet/necklace:

• thread one strand with a colored tube bead and the other with a round pearlized bead

• thread one strand with a plain color and the other with a color mix

• thread one strand with say a light blue and one with a dark blue . To make your bracelet:

Attach one end of each elastomas strand to the jump ring. Now thread on the beads in the colors and/or patterns that you desire. Tie the two loose ends to the bolt ring and you now have a completed article. It is important to ensure that the knots you tie are firm and will not come apart.

When these strands are finished you can wind the two strands around your wrist several times and make a nice fine multi-strand bracelet or you can wear it as a necklace

How To Make Your Second Beaded Bracelet

Requirements:

1 bolt ring and 1 jump ring (or you may choose a decorative clasp) 1 strip of 42 gauge Soft Flex beading wire

Assorted beads of your choice

Pliers

Wire cutters

Ruler

Lay your colored beads out on the table and sort them into the colors that you like to have together. Wrap the wire around your wrist and then cut it 3 inches longer to allow for tying and being a little loose on the wrist. Tie one end of the wire securely to the bolt ring then thread the beads on in the pattern that you have selected. When you have all the beads on you can securely tie the wire off to the jump ring.

Tying Off Loose Ends

When you have done your tying to the rings you will find that you have loose ends and there are two ways that you can tidy up these ends. You can either thread the loose end back through the last few beads (you probably need to thread through 3 or 4 beads) or you can cut it off nearer the ring. But you do need to make sure that the knots are good and tight before cutting any loose end off.

To make your bracelets interesting experiment with different colors, shapes and types of beads. Sometimes you will want them to be similar to each other and other times you may want them to scream at each other when making a piece that is going to be fun and funky to wear.
