With the snow falling early across the north for autumn 2011, fresh- and salt-water anglers are going to have to move south, if they don’t already live there. You can tell the southern anglers, the boat seats of their fishing boats are always just a little more faded. From the lakes of Georgia to the Florida Atlantic coast to the Keys to the Gulf Coast to even lakes in Mexico, there’s still plenty of fishing to be done during November, so trailer up your fishing boats everyone and let’s get going. In the lakes of central Georgia, not to mention most of the inland bodies of water across the south, bass and crappie (perch, sac-a-lait, etc.) are still biting. As the water cools, they become more active. Lures and jigs work well during the fall, so try a few to find your favorite, which is usually the one the fish are biting on. Don’t forget your overalls. It’s cold in the morning before it warms up during the day. Along the Atlantic coast, the charter operators are chirping about all the big fish you can catch this time of year. Bonefish, Cobia, Grouper, Sailfish, Snook, Swordfish, Tuna and Wahoo are your best bets. For bait, it’s best to talk to the experts about what fish is hitting what. Some will go for spoons and some prefer live bait, such as pinfish or crab. The ocean water gets a little frosty in November, not to mention rough, a slicker is always a good idea. Along the Keys, you can’t really tell any difference in November from the middle of summer, just about everything is good to go, although the fish mentioned for the Atlantic coast are the ones biting best there, too. Just remember it is still hurricane season, so keep your ears tuned to the weather radio. On the Gulf Coast, amberjack, grouper, mackerel, snapper, tuna and wahoo are all biting in the fall. The weather usually cooperates, and the water stays warm, although it can get cold along the Florida Panhandle, Alabama and Mississippi. Also, remember to check those fishing regulations. There are seasons on red snapper and some other species, and you don’t want to get caught and have to give up your boat for a fish. One of best places to fish during November for freshwater anglers is the lakes of Mexico. The bass are big and plentiful, but you have to be careful in planning a trip. Generally the drug lords won’t mess with bass anglers, but you have to make sure you don’t find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is a time when it makes absolute sense to consult with an expert. There are fishing guides who know the best lakes in Mexico; it wouldn’t hurt to hire one to be sure. For the big water and everywhere inland, EdgeWater Power Boats has fishing boats that fit the bill. From its new inshore models to its best big boats, fishing will be better.
