Growing up, I was always told it was a good idea to visit the dentist at least twice a year for a semi annual dental checkup. I always thought that it was a rip off to go to the dentist twice a year, especially when there was nothing wrong with my teeth. Why did I need to go to the dentist two times a year? What dental services could this dentist have to offer me that made visiting him twice every single year so important? Was the dentist just trying to get us to spend money over and over again for no good reason? In my adult years, I have since discovered that the dentist is in fact NOT trying to rip us off and that it is a good idea to visit the dentist twice a year for oral care and cleaning. And now I am here to pass this knowledge onto you. Why should you go to the dentist twice a year? What if you should decide to only go to the dentist when you have an oral problem and need the dental services of your dentist to correct a problem? Because twice yearly visits to the dentist can not only prevent most oral health problems, but on these semi annual visits, your dentist can catch a problem while it is still tiny, before it begins causing real harm to your teeth and real pain to you. Picture yourself in the following teeth and dental services scenario. These scenarios should relay the importance of visiting your dentist twice a year. Scenario one: You believe visiting the dentist two times a year is a waste of time and money. You believe you have very strong teeth and your oral health is excellent so you decide not to go to the dentist this year. You don't go to the dentist next year either. In fact, you decide to skip out on all dentistry services for the next four years. One day you wake up with a shooting pain in your teeth. This pain in your teeth is so bad that by lunch time you can't possibly imagine going one more minute without a visit to the dentist for some much needed relief. So off you go, tears in your eyes from the pain in your teeth, on your way to the dentist. Turns out you have a root canal and will need oral surgery, an oral surgery that could have been prevented had the little cavity been discovered three years previously. You spend two month's pay and one week recovery for your dentist to fix this mistake. Scenario two: You are a firm believer in visiting the dentist twice a year and you never miss an appointment. One day, your dentist discovers a teeny cavity in one of your teeth. He provides you with his friendly dental services in oral care and promptly fixes the hole in your teeth. You leave happy and confident in the health of your teeth. Which dentist scenario would you rather experience?
