The Bravo network's reality television series Project Runway focuses on the intensely competitive and demanding world of fashion design, where aspiring designers are given a chance to have their work criticized by top names in the business. Michael Kors is one of these major industry players, having run his own clothing line for more than 20 years, and he appears as one of the judges on the show. His own designs have been described as a blend of classic and modern tastes, typically featuring apparel for women and with stores at locations such as Bergdof Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. Kors has further increased his impact and image through his work on Project Runway, along with the fact that attention-grabbing celebrities such as Jessica Simpson have often been seen sporting his products, greatly boosting awareness of him in a newer generation of fashion-conscious youngsters. However, all of his success and fame does not insulate or make him immune from controversy or criticism. Kors is one of several designers who previously used dog fur in his clothing products. It was only after the Humane Society directed a request towards the Federal Trade Commission to fine designers for mislabeling clothes which actually used dog fur, that Kors reportedly ceased the use of canine hair completely. But despite his decision to stop using dog fur, Kors continues to utilize broadtail fur and rabbit fur in some of his other product lines. In his newer Spring 2008 line that debuted at Bryant Park in New York City, as part of the Big Apple's Fashion Week celebration, it's been stated that this particular line does not use either of those fur types, as well. However, the event was still targeted and protested by members of an animal advocacy group, known as the New York City Animal Rights organization.
