When it comes to alternative health care supplements there are a few good things about taking them and of course there are some negative things as well. In the modern age we have so many nifty tools and gadgets that I feel very fortunate to be living in these times. I would not want to live in medieval or caveman times when people literally had to work so much harder just to survive. For example if a caveman didn’t eat the right food then he wouldn’t have vitamin K and could potentially bleed to death. Without Calcium then his bones would get brittle and one fracture in those times probably resulted in death. One of the main advantages of vitamins and supplements is that it can allow someone to get all the nutrients they really need in a very easy way. I really can’t think of an easier way that someone can get their nutrients than swallowing a pill unless it gets injected in their sleep so they don’t have to think about it. Not only is it easy to get nutrients they can get every single important one that they need without the hassle of finding a wide variety of different foods to get these nutrients. Remember back in caveman times there was no refrigerator, so food perished more quickly. This brings me to another advantage of supplements. Many vitamins and minerals are antioxidants which neutralize free radicals. There are tons of free radicals in the air so once a fruit or vegetable comes into contact with the air it will lose antioxidants every single second. With a supplement the nutrients are much more protected and can hold its potency much longer plus someone can get many more nutrients than they could ever possibly get by eating the food. When it comes to disadvantages one of the biggest ones is that the industry is very confusing. There are so many different brands and products that it’s not easy to choose one particular supplement. Then you add the fact that the industry is deregulated in many countries. This means that government agencies are not ensuring supplements have high quality and safety. Unfortunately this means that the consumer has to be knowledgeable about supplements so that they don’t get taken advantage of. So the real question is where does someone go to get knowledgeable about supplements so that they don’t get taken advantage of?
