If you were made to choose, which would you prefer, jobs in the city or jobs in the country? The question may be irrelevant to your current situation because you are the type of person who views life under the limitations of your “box”. This box may be education, geographical location or training. Your preference scope is based on your box or boxes. Most of us are normally boxed so. There are people who have a wider perspective of choosing jobs. These are the kind of people to whom the question in the first sentence above should be directed to. While it is limiting, choosiness is the way, maybe the only way, to your ideal job. It may sound a bit snobbish but people should be choosy about jobs and about everything else in order to be really happy. Then what keeps us from being “choosy”? Gone are the days when it was jobs looking for us. We are in an age where there are fewer jobs than there are job hunters. So we are “pressured” to accept and take on what comes our way – whether we like it or not. There is no more room to be choosy. Opportunities are getting fewer and more elusive. Is there a truth to opportunities being few? It depends upon the individual’s outlook and perspective. Entrepreneurial courses defy that. It is said that true entrepreneurs know how to look and see beyond the “wall”. There is always a way towards your goal. There are manners and methods of attack other than “head on” strike. Circumvention is one wonderful word that brings entrepreneurs to planned destinations. They view stumbling blocks not as stoppers but just as challenges. They are incorrigible optimists. If you have the characteristics of an entrepreneur, then what is the point in wanting to get employed? This is another question that the true entrepreneur just shrugs off. As he (or she) views things in a wider perspective, strong analytical skills have become a built-in attribute. The entrepreneur looks at it in the following manner: • If indeed the entrepreneur will take on a job as an employee, it is for reasons such as – • To directly acquire knowledge and intimately learn the ins and outs of the business or industry, • To earn sufficient cash to help finance his own innovated version of the business, and/or • To gain access to information and relationships that will be used in his own networked business. • An employment is something he considers as his own “job” even in his own company as the same privileges and responsibilities will apply to whoever will replace him in the position he will have outgrown in favour of a more advantageous new “job”.
