The most common types of pistols in use are single shot, revolver and the semi automatic types. A single shot type was used mainly at the time of usage of musket weaponry where the weapon was loaded with a lead ball and fired by percussion cap. But with advancement of technology more convenient mechanism has been developed. Presently they are used as hunt guns. The first and most important criterion is the prospective customers should hold valid license for the same. The government has authorized listed dealers for sale of any types of guns; it is definitely not an open and free market. In case one wants to buy it from the factories itself there are number of conditions to be fulfilled including a NOC from the licensing authority. Otherwise the weapons are available from licensed gun dealers spread across any country. Also the civilians can buy a few selected types of arms as authorized by respective governments or authorities. In case the customer wants any weapon from the factory then he or she has to fill prescribed form and submit the required documents. Generally an individual holding authorized license from the respective authority is allowed to purchase only Non Prohibited Bore (NPB) category of weapons or guns. Even the offices and personnel of Armed Forces can also purchase these weapons if they obtain arms license from Licensing Authority. As far as guns for sale are concerned it is strictly governed by the provisions of the Arms Act 1959 and the Arms Rules 1962.NPB guns or weapons can only be sold by the authorized dealers. The various types any individual is authorized to purchase are .315” sporting rifle,.22” sporting rifle,.22” revolver, sporting ammunitions of all types and 30-06 sporting rifle..
