Are there any Demerits with The Dell Thin Client Device?

A computer is an electronic device that is able to access and execute data in accordance with the set protocols. When we talk about the thin client device, we generally mean the computer that needs another computer in order to perform the duties of a computer machine which include the execution of the set protocols. These protocols could be file storage, access or alteration. Since Dell unveiled their thin client device, there are questions whether there are any demerits or disadvantages that could be connected to this device. The Dell Thin Client device is the computing solution to the modern world. It has been made targeting big organizations, institutes and companies that need to save the amount that reflects back to the IT department whenever they are repairing or assembling new desktop machines.

The reason why you may want to take part in the new computing solutions is simply because unlike the desktop computer hardware which may be a lot more expensive, the client hardware is in return more pocket friendly. The way thin client computers work is rather complex unlike the general desktop machines. This is rather not to the complexity of functionality or maintenance. The current modern thin clients usually concentrate more on the provision of the user interface in terms of graphics to the user. The rest is processed in the server’s operating system. There are demerits not only to the Dell thin client devices but also to all other thin client devices although the demerits do not out way the merits. One of the biggest demerits is the video performance in relation to the graphics.

Comparing a Dell desktop computer with a video memory of up to 256MB can be referenced to perform much better compared to the thin client device. The importance of the video memory or the graphics is dependent on the end user’s screen this is because the performance of his or her screen will be calculated according to the graphical performance of the client computer and not the server. Other flaws of the thin clients are those related to software updates. According to the current business dynamic modules, it appears as if demand is higher than production and thus the reason why staying in up to date with technology is particularly important. Unlike if you were running a desktop machine that you can very easily update the hardware by purchasing the updated one, opening the case and fixing it, with the thin client device, it is a dead end and thus you may have to wait for the vendor to release an updated firmware.
