The Republic of Costa Rica is a country situated in Central America. Costa Rica actually means Rich Coast in Spanish. This means that it is blessed with pristine white sandy beaches and there are COSTA RICA VILLAS along the beaches to enable tourists enjoy these tropical beaches. It is a second world country that is developing at a fast rate due to the emergence of the tourism and technological sectors. The country abolished its army in 1949 and together with other democratic qualities has led this nation to be dubbed as the Switzerland of Latin America. When Spain colonized the region, the country was the south province of the Captaincy General of Guatemala and was identified as the poorest Spanish colony due to its lack of resources such as valuable minerals. The country is rich in flora and fauna variety. In spite of its small land mass it contains five percent of the biodiversity in the world and a quarter of its area is under protection as national parks. More importantly it has been successful in diminishing the rate of deforestation to almost zero. The national parks in the country have been identified the world over for their biodiversity and wildlife. The four Costa Rican monkeys are so names because these species of monkey are unique to this country. This endangered species is only found on the Pacific coast of the country. These monkeys had been severely threatened as a result of illegal trading and hunting. This country is well endowed with biological diversity. It is home to the fastest running lizard in the world, the spiny tailed iguana. Many other plant and animal species are unique to the country and cannot be found anywhere in the world including numerous bird species. This is an ideal vacation destination. One can enjoy a myriad of fun activities such as hiking, surfing, diving, snorkeling and canopying.
