Automotive safety experts rejoiced this week thanks to the Association of Global Automakers report that showed that traffic deaths in the United States have dropped to levels not seen since the 1950’s. Michael J Stanton who is the CEO of the Global Automakers said “The record breaking decline in traffic fatalities is proof that the billions of dollars automakers are investing into advanced safety features on their vehicles is helping save lives.” Electronic Stability Control Is Working Recent reports released by organizations like the (NHTSA) or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on auto news show that all new vehicles that have an Electronic Stability Control system installed in the vehicle have helped to stop potential crashes and accidents from happening. Safer vehicles are the wave of the future and advancements will continue to be made thanks to government regulations that require Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to be installed on all new vehicles that come off the line. Besides the new regulations, the government continues to extend tax breaks to automakers to encourage the design and innovation that will lead to better, safer ESC systems. Many More Lives Will Be Saved In the Years to Come Thanks to the improvement in ESC systems and more regulations across the country to stop drivers from talking on cell phones while driving and using other electronic devices, motor vehicle fatalities are expected to continue to drop in the future. Michael J Stanton said "While technology has saved countless lives, we must acknowledge the impact of safe driving behavior and are pleased that NHTSA is taking additional steps to focus on the issue of driver distraction.” Stanton shares the same view as other automotive industry experts that the advancement in safety features like ESC systems will lead to increased automotive sales since consumers will feel more confident in the latest vehicles. Road Safety Will Continue With the United Nations proclamation as 2011 through the year 2020 being the Decade of Action, road safety is expected to continue to be a priority for auto makers around the world. As many organizations like the CDC work together to encourage the development of safer vehicles, crash related deaths are expected to go down not just in the United States but worldwide.
