What kind of jewellery do you wear? Do you believe that the kind of jewellery you wear reflects the inner person inside that façade you let people see as yourself? Unless, of course, you are acting somebody else’s part as movie actors or secret agents do. Try observing people in parties, in shopping malls or just walking the streets. Your observations will, of course, differ slightly in different cultures and sub-cultures. But you are sure to observe commonalities in the kind of jewellery people wear in these three different settings. People in parties normally wear jewellery that will reflect “showing off”, especially in formal social gatherings attended by the “who is who”. Casual friendly parties may slightly be different but there is still that hint of showing off. It is not only to enhance beauty that we wear jewellery. It is also a way of telling other people that we also matter, that we have something to show. In shopping malls, people do not wear the show-off jewellery. Every-day jewellery is instead worn. After all, we are there to shop looking for something that will improve something in us. Or something that will make us feel good. In fact, show-off jewellery especially expensive ones pose danger to life or property. Knowing thieves know expensive jewellery when they see one. Never wear expensive jewellery in places where it is known to be frequented by thieves and scammers. And there are a lot of them in public places. Walking the streets requires no jewellery at all except for basics such as wristwatches. But many people do not consider wristwatches jewellery anymore, even if they are the expensive diamond-studded kind. They are worn for their practical use. Some people nevertheless wear everyday jewellery when walking the streets. But it is mostly the ethnic type worn, which are mostly cheap but are good to look at, sometimes even equalling expensive pieces. Regardless of location or setting, the kind of jewellery worn reflects the inner person of the one wearing it. Do you notice how most of the filthy rich and royal family members almost do not wear jewellery as compared to the commons? Of course they do when required, such as when they attend important social functions. In their everyday life, on the other hand, jewellery mean little to them. Most of them have no reason to show off so they only wear their favourites. Sometimes, even clothes do not matter, feeling good about the “freedom” without them and wearing only the thin and tiny favourite necklace. Jewellery indeed reflects the person within.
