The first people on the planet did not have any inkling of what real estate is. They roamed the Earth without care. It was so vast it was impossible for them to cover it in their lifetimes. They did not even have an idea where “the ends of the Earth” were. And ownership was an unknown concept then. The invention of transportation devices started with the invention of the wheel. Early man discovered he can transport large objects using a “cart” with the wheel over short distances. He gradually improved upon his invention as ideas came to him. It enabled him to move himself and his “belongings” to farther places. This was the beginning of the wheeled transport which evolved over many centuries into what we know now as cars and trucks. Somebody else invented the “dugout” or “log boat” which enabled man to transport things and him across waters. He became innovative and slowly transformed his log boat into water vessels more elaborate than the last. It was this humble beginnings that today’s huge boats, ships and super yachts have come from. Then, after many trials and errors, the first plane soared into the sky which gave rise to better and better aircrafts until the first of our present-day super jets circumnavigated the Earth in less than a day. Such was the inventiveness of man that he even successfully shrunk the vast Earth to his convenience and pleasure. His ambitiousness now prepares him for success in space exploration. Because of man’s intelligence, he was able to cross the land, seas and even the sky. It was this intelligence that made man see opportunities of conquest. Conquest allowed him “ownership”. Man conquered, owned and ruled. Laws and rules were created to govern the newfound concept of ownership and rule. Kings defined their domain and assigned portions to their knights and squires. These domains were the progenitors or real estate or “royal estates”. In our present time, there is almost no piece of real property that is not owned by somebody. Those that are not yet discovered automatically become the domain or property of the state where it is geographically located. Political demarcations define interstate subdivisions, from the surface to the subterranean centre of the Earth and upwards to the air and space. As peoples developed unique cultures and traditions in their own countries, so did laws concerning real estate emerged and evolved. Aside from the statutes, real estate agents and regulatory organisations each developed their own set of policies and practices that now influence and govern real estate ownership, purchase and selling.
