Why are Payment Protection Cover claims often declined?

Insurance,Finance & Investment,Advice
In case you lose your salary and you can no longer pay your loans and other financial commitments, you could use a payment protection insurance policy. Nevertheless, whilst this works on paper, it doesn't work well in practice - leaving many in debt. Why are people that request an insurance payment declined so frequently? And why isn't payment protection insurance useful for many?

Payment protection insurance (often called PPI) is an incredibly good idea for plenty of individuals on paper. When practiced, payment protection insurance can leave many people indebted without any revenue. Why does this happen and how might you make sure that your payment protection insurance is going to be there when it is needed most?

Payment protection insurance is a rather simple concept - this sort of insurance is useful if you lose your earnings, because it can be used to pay down the cost of your mortgage. You could lose revenue for a variety of causes, and if this happens, you could end up with a loan you can no longer afford to repay.

The situations requiring a payment protection insurance claim may be: Loss of life, Redundancy, Different causes of redundancy, Sickness or mishaps that affect the ability to work.

Generally PPI cover can last for 12 months after an accident, sickness, death or redundancy. Yet many individuals discover that their payment protection insurance statement is rejected the moment they need it the most, even after having paid for it for several years.

This may happen due to the fact that payment protection insurance is mis-sold. To clarify, most of these customers that obtain PPI don't fully understand what it covers. This, consequently, means that the PPI people acquire is occasionally improper for the person buyer and is therefore impossible to claim on in the event of a loss of earnings.

As with most other types of insurance, payment protection insurance cannot be sold as an one-size-fits-all answer to all the chances of losing out on revenue whilst repaying a loan. Given the fact that every case differs, understanding the individual's specific requirements when losing their earnings is essential.

Fortunately, things are getting better in this regard. Currently there are more stringent guidelines in place that should stop PPI from being sold in the incorrect fashion to inappropriate candidates. Additionally, if you find that you were sold PPI unnecessarily, you can get a reimbursement.

The 90% of those who weren't properly informed when they received a payment protection insurance policy could imagine that it's too little and far too late for them. On many occasions this proportion of people felt that they had even got deliberately confusing information by their PPI retailer.

If you believe that you were misled when you bought PPI then it is potentially time to register a complaint. Making a complaint is the first step towards dealing with mis-sold PPI. It is important that you raise a complaint if you've been sold PPI illegally. Read further for a short guide to this process. If you haven't got one, get hold of a copy of your PPI policy. Secondly, find out whether you have been either lied to, or not given the complete truth. If you were mis-sold PPI online because you did not click the 'opt out button you are within your rights to claim. Equally, if you were lied to about it being compulsory, then you can register a claim. You need to lodge a complaint if you were lied to or given deliberately false info all to make you purchase PPI.

After you've established how the PPI was mis-sold you can get on with making your complaint. Make sure you are inside the time frame of six years from the end of the active policy before going ahead. To file your claim, write a formal letter describing the faults to the lender who sold you the PPI. They don't generally accept the claim. If this happens the next step is to write a formal complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). FOS will then make a decision within 6-12 months. If FOS reject your claim you will be forced to ask for a more senior ombudsman at FOS. If you're successful the hard work is over, but your complaint may be rejected and you may have to take your case to a senior ombudsman. If the senior ombudsman denies your case there is only one extra thing you can do however you will need the financial resources to hire an excellent lawyer to sue the lender who wrongly sold you PPI.

Do not trust in the advances in the system and be careful when getting PPI. Before purchasing a policy, get all the information you can in regards to the payment protection insurance policy and be sure to check the cover fits you and all your needs. You can best do this by gathering all the information you need just before making a decision.
