Tough economic times and the resultant stress may contribute to domestic violence, statistics indicate. Domestic violence centers in Florida have recently indicated that incidents of abuse have been on the increase over the last two years and suggest that financial difficulties that families are facing may be the cause. In addition, directors at these centers report that the cases of domestic violence that they are encountering are becoming increasingly more violent. Because many victims of domestic violence in Fort Lauderdale feel that they cannot get out of their abusive relationships, they feel trapped and do not believe that they have any options. Often, they do not have money for rent or to purchase groceries for children, so they remain and endure further abuse.
