Teachers have quite a difficult job trying to get their lessons suitable for all different types of students, as having so many different personalities within the same classroom can make it hard for the teacher to be able to differentiate the inter-session tasks for each individual within the classroom. It is essential that the teacher differentiates in the lesson and the new inclusion statement that was released earlier this year mentions the fact that all teachers must have the correct resources and differentiation in their lessons, and this must suit all students, even the ones with the most severe learning difficulties. It is hard enough for the teachers to have to be able to plan lessons for each session every day, however to have to think of each child as a unique learner is even more of a tough job. It is therefore vital that each teacher has the proficiency within the classroom to be able to cope with all different types of learners. A tool which has proved to have a positive impact within the classroom and that has helped teachers to deal with the great diversity within the classroom is an interactive whiteboard. To the untrained eye, an interactive whiteboard may seem as being something that will simply enhance the way notes are documented within the classroom. It is however a revolutionary tool within the classroom and has begun to change the way that lessons are taught, making them more accessible for the trickier pupils. The interactive whiteboard enables lessons to become more interactive and the programmes that are available are made to suit all learning types, and this means that the class teacher can use various methods to suit the different sorts of children in their class. One of the key positives of the interactive whiteboard is the fact that, before the interactive whiteboard, a teacher would have to alternate between the types of lessons that they carried out, with different ways of teaching auditory, visual or kinaesthetic learners. The interactive whiteboard however enables the teacher to incorporate all three of these in to the lesson, the interactive whiteboard allows for the teacher to identify which students need what area of proficiency, for example if the teacher is aware that a few of the students in the class learn best when involved in activities, the teacher can make sure that they ask those students to take part in an activity on the IWB that involves them getting up and using the whiteboard’s stylus. An IWB is a great way to differentiate in the classroom and is a great learning tool that can suit all learners. Using an interactive whiteboard is something that gets all students involved.
