For those who were at the edge of their seats for the Heroes spin-off entitled Heroes: Origins, your bubble has indeed burst as NBC has postponed it for a later date. The spin-off, which was supposed to be composed of six stand-alone episodes, was said to be set well within the Heroes universe, but will be focusing on a whole new set of characters. This was one avenue for the producers to introduce more characters to the show, however, the writers strike had threatened the production, and thus NBC decided to put production on pause. Despite the halt of production for the anticipated series, NBC has been careful not to use the word "cancelled," as it depicts much finality. Heroes: Origins may still come to life probably next year, or as soon as the trouble with the writers gets resolved. In fact, a group of directors have already been called upon to direct the spin-off. These include Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy) and Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever). We may not know the whole story, but NBC might just be using the writers' strike as a reason to halt production. There may be other reasons. Heroes' season two hasn't been performing well as creative direction and ratings haven't been living up to its freshman installment. Basically, fans dislike the dragging episodes and the lack of airtime of the previous Heroes, thus the ratings took quite a dive. In fact on Monday, Heroes received its lowest ratings in series history. It is a possibility that NBC is losing faith in Heroes, and that they are reluctant to invest on its spin-off. This is the time for the network to realize that the writers' strike won't do anything good for Heroes or the other fictional shows. People are getting tired of reality shows and audiences do need a fresh television material to watch. Heroes had a good start. They shouldn't waste the opportunity to make another good season after the worldwide success of the first.
