Helping institutions whether public or private, charitable or otherwise is a fulfilling experience. Some people may have other agendas for donating resources, but generally, the sharing of resources to organizations which utilizes the funds donated to positively impact other people’s lives positively is a habit that should be cultivated by everyone. It is emotionally gratifying for institutions to know that people support and believe their efforts and beliefs. The donations received beget not only physical capabilities to do more work, it also gives a boost of morale to continue and improve the work. With the intent of acknowledging and showing the institution’s gratitude, they tend to give donor recognition in a variety of forms and ways. Donor recognition is an act not only done by charitable institutions but by other institutions such as schools or businesses as well. While the directions of the donations differ, the act of giving Donor recognition is nevertheless an integral part of the institution. There are a lot of ways to and means to give donor recognition. Some institutions give plaques and trinkets to their donors as a way of thanking them for their efforts to their cause. Some give Donor recognitions by placing the names of the donor or donors on the wall of their establishments. Of course, there are some institutions that perform donor recognition by inaugurating a particular wing of an establishment or, in cases of an extremely generous sponsor, a whole building on the name of the donor. This is of course followed by celebration by dinner and sometimes dancing. While some go through extravagant means to give due donor recognition, the type and means in which donors are acknowledged should be equal to the institutions’ capacity as well as the nature of the organization. While it is a norm to some private and profit centered organizations to throw parties and Schools and hospitals to name buildings and wings for generous sponsors, it cannot be the case for non- profit organizations whether public or private. Since most of these organizations rely heavily on donations, it would be considered excess for these entities to spend a large sum of money only for Donor recognition. Furthermore, should they create a shindig this lucrative in the name of donor recognition; sponsors would begin to question the institutions capacity to manage donations. Nevertheless, these institutions can give donor recognition to their sponsors that are as meaningful and touching as any gala events offered by other institutions. All it takes is a little imagination and a clear vision of what the organization is all about. If for example the organization takes care of abandoned children, then photos of what the donation was able to accomplish for the children along with a simple letter of thanks from them is enough as donor recognition. Hand-made cards of appreciation can also serve the purpose. Donor recognition is indeed important for the sponsors to continue their patronage of the organization. The means may be different but the most important thing would be to show the appreciation to people who helped make a difference in other people’s lives.
