More than seventy years ago these pocket watches went out of style with the horse carriages. Men stopped carrying them around as they took some time to be taken out of the pocket, to open, to see the time and then put them back in and people preferred to use wrist watches for more convenience. People who still insist on owning a pocket watch should be appreciated not made fun of because it shows that they still fully appreciate the treasures of the past. Furthermore there are still a lot of pocket watches available today and they aren’t that expensive at all. For instance a pocket watch dating back to the 19th century can be bought today even at very low prices that you never thought would be possible and the craftsmanship can be compared to the modern watches worn today. You can still find a pocket watch made by antique dealers today even but if someone is considering buying them he should be prepared to pay the price of an arm and leg to get one of these watches. Nowadays there is several renowned watch makers are trying to reinvent people’s interest in pocket watches by offering some outstandingly elegant watches but they are highly overpriced. But there is hope watch manufacturers will once again attempt to start the tradition again. While they serve no practical purpose when it comes to telling the time, people avoid buying a pocket watch since they tend to be very expensive. There were once a very well number of pocket watch makers who were quite well known for their pocket watches and very few companies could come close to what these watch makers offered to people in their watches. But when these watches started to decline in the middle of the Great Depression people started to switch to wrist watches. Because of the change in peoples taste and the worsening economic conditions they had to finish this once great invention. Although some companies still continued to produce pocket watches, their levels of production had gone down dramatically due to the huge drop in the demand, even though they still maintained their style and quality. While people have no use for them nowadays there are still people who like to collect these once great inventions and can catch a very good price for them from people who really want to collect them.
