African safaris are really popular holidays, that people from all walks of life have been able to enjoy. However, that was not always the case. Until a couple of decades ago, they were definitely not mainstream holidays. They were all extremely expensive, and very few people could afford them. An awful lot of them were also very rough and ready affairs meaning to go on them you had to be pretty fit and very adventurous. Nowadays, safaris come in many shapes and sizes, and if you shop around you can find one to suit you. Types of African Safaris If you want to go on holiday to Africa and spend just a day on safari you can do that. Many hotels offer them as day tours, or 2 day tours. These tours are fine if you just want to see the landscape and the most common animals. If you are lucky, you may even see some of the rarer animals too. If you want to you can stay overnight whilst on safari in a variety of accommodation. You can stay in a luxury lodge or luxury camping. Some safaris last as long as a week and take you through varied terrain to give you the chance to see a wider variety of animals. However, there is now a new type of safari on offer, which is designed to be more adventurous and let you see far more of Africa as well as the wildlife. These new safaris are known as overland safaris. Overland African Safaris The length of these safaris varies between 1 and 11 weeks. You travel from destination to destination in specially designed truck and stay in lodges or camp each night. Food is usually included in the price of the safari, as is entrance to some of the attractions you will visit on the way. Because you are travelling overland, you see a lot more of the countryside and stop somewhere different each night. Most days you have at least a few hours to do something different, for example take a balloon trip, go climbing or visit animal sanctuaries. Absolute Africa offers a wide array of African safaris. They currently offer 10 different routes through every part of Africa.
