Utah's Strawberry Reservoir may arguably be the best trout fishery inside western United States. It has gained a reputation recently... throughout the world... as a place to catch big cutthroat and rainbow bass.
A beautiful... and very large... high-alpine tank, Strawberry is my most loved Utah fishing destination. Lying within a mountain-rimmed valley at 7, 600 feet, it covers a lot more than 17, 000 acres in all of the years.
It wasn't until 1974 that the Soldier Creek Dam was completed contained in the Bonneville Unit of your Central Utah Project. It's 7 miles (11. 2 km) downstream from Strawberry Dam. The dam concerning Strawberry and Soldier Creek had been breached in 1985. And resulted in a far more massive reservoir. The water surface of Strawberry Reservoir rose by about 45 feet. And the surface increased to its current 17, 163 acres.
It has proven to be very effective in limiting the chub numbers. That cutthroats... from Bear Ocean stock... have prospered. Together with, after sterile rainbow trout were introduced, they way too have flourished. It is possible to fish from shore. From your float tube. Or a boat. My favorite is to use a float tube.
Float tubers and waders may do well by casting in the channels of old mode beds. These are usually found at the heads of bays in which the streams either used to... or still do... enter the reservoir. Black or olive wooly buggers work well here usually.
Trolling techniques manage to have evolved over the years but I've got to admit... this is not my specialization. My reading shows that Rapalas, Strawberry wobblers, and Flatfish are nevertheless popular. And pop gear with a worm are still utilized. If you happen to become a troller... or boat angler... and are reading this, feel free to allow me an update on which you're using now.
Do not fillet fish at this reservoir! When filleted... or the heads are taken off... conservation officers can't tell the species.
Outcomes Access Strawberry Reservoir
PEOPLE 40 skirts the north edge with the reservoir. It provides access to the two Chicken Creek day-use aspects. Another popular section arrived at by this highway may be the "ladders". A Central Utah Project canal empties in the lake here.
In the visitor center, turn south and you'll be ready to access the Strawberry Fresh Recreation Complex. You can also reach the Haws Issue Day-Use Area along that road.
Over the east edge of Blood, you'll find Soldier Creek Dam and the Aspen Grove Campground at Stinking Springs. You'll find the road to the Soldier Creek Recreation Complex in the northeast edge of Strawberry off US 40.

Imagine yourself floating in the drift boat with a professional oarsman, on the evident Green River. On either side of you will be towering red sandstone rooms, ponderosa pine trees, and abundant wildlife. Beneath you lies one of the largest populations of trout anywhere in the world. As you gaze at the fish and beautiful environment your guide yells "SET YOUR HOOK!! " for your 20th time.
