The 2012 NCAA Bracket is a voluntary organization which encompasses 1281 institutions and organizations. Its primary responsibility is the organizing of all the athletic programs in most colleges and universities in USA and Canada. The head quarters of this organization are in Indianapolis, Indiana. The NCAA is divided into 3 leagues, the division 1, division 2 and division 3. This was decided on in a 1973 convention. Large schools compete in division 1 whilst little institutions compete in these other second and third divisions. Scholarships are offered in 1st and second divisions to those students and athletes who excel in sports, but this is not common in third division schools. College football was also divided into divisions 1, two and three, with the 1st division being initially divided into the I A, I AA and I AAA categories. The I AA and I A have because been renamed the Football Champions Subdivision and the Football Bowl Subdivisions in that order, while the I AAA category was completely scrapped and is not officially utilized. Prior to the inclusion of women in all sports hosted by the association, ladies had their own organization which represented their interests and facilitated all female college sporting events. This organization was the AIAW, the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Ladies. In 1982 however, this female sporting association was dissolved and its responsibilities were largely absorbed by the NCAA. There are guidelines and procedures that must be followed before an athlete in a college can enroll in any of the divisions in college sports. If the athlete wishes to play in his or her freshman year, he or she has to have completed and graduated from high school and they should have completed the minimum required courses. Moreover, they ought to have a high GPA score in all 16 courses. As of 2011, every student seeking to play in the league was to submit a signed letter of intent that was to express his interest in playing.
