For whom is fashion intended? While what we see in billboards, fashion magazines, lifestyle publications and TV ads are mostly focused on women, there are those that also cater even exclusively to growing up kids, men, teenagers and toddlers. We should not wonder why seniors’ fashion apparel and accessories are not properly advertised perhaps for lack of gorgeous old men and women to serve as models. Not many seniors work out to be able to show off six-pack abs and shapely biceps. It just isn’t worth the effort. But fashion may not be claimed as a territory of any age group, economic or social group/sector and market niche/segment. It is for everybody. Even the elderly look better in fashionable clothes. Why, we even wear them their “Sunday best” when they are finally in the coffin as our last “fashion” tribute to them as they journey to their final destination “in good taste”. It is funny that some humans extend fashion to their pet animals. Pet cats, dogs and pigs are made to look like their owners by doing them up in diapers, hats, tees, pants and/or even ribbons whenever or wherever they think it fashionable or hip. It is just funny how people can afford to do that to animals but not even an ounce of sympathy to even only one of the millions of hungry people worldwide. A dollar or two can give a starving stomach relief with a day’s worth of decent meal or even save a life. Speaking of hunger and other such issues, there are fashion events that are held for charity purposes. Some civic-minded citizens are members of civic- and service-oriented organisations which collaborate with organisers of fashion events or shows for charity. The proceeds are then donated to foundations that are directly involved with hunger abatement and other social advocacies. They feel sufficiently absolved from their own excesses in vanities such as fashion applied to pet animals. Aside from the vanity of beauty and luxury, the passion for fashion is an artistic expression of how it is to be both comfortable in clothing that perfectly fit and at the same time make the wearer look and feel stunningly gorgeous. Why endure the dullness and flatness of mediocrity when there is a better option? Colours and matching accessories inexplicably enhance the aura or “presence” of people wearing fashionable clothes. Isn’t making the most of what you’ve got the best thing you can do to satisfy your sensibilities? The focus of fashion is that which is intangible. It is something felt rather than tasted like food. It goes beyond the taste and makes you seem gently rocked in an extremely soft hammock in the clouds. So whether for charity or vanity, fashion is for the spirit as knowledge is for the brain and the intellect. Are you sick of designer clothing being uncomfortable?
