Faced with a choice about what to wear on a given evening, most women usually stick to the time and tested colour – Black! But human beings more so men are visual creatures. We like to see women wrapped up in appealing clothes yes but the packaging matters! I think women should ditch black and wear more red! I did a quick poll the other night with my friends at the bar and guess what out of the 5 guys, 4 voted for ‘red’. Guys are in fact more attracted to women who wear red. I think the colour Red and it’s other various hues and tones like Pink have become ingrained ingrained in the media’s consciousness as the colour of love and passion. There must be a deep inherent reason behind it. Think of Valentine’s Day and all the advertisements, posters, media communication blaring out at you visually from all directions. What is the colour that comes to mind? Red of course! Dont believe that Red is still the colour that we men find women wrapped up in most alluring? Scientific evidence also proves me right. And as a doctor I do like to take refuge in scientific evidence to settle an argument ;-) In a study the researchers showed different male respondents the same photo of a woman. The photograph of the woman was digitally altered so that some of the guys saw her in a red shirt, and some saw her in a blue shirt. The same woman, when wearing red, was rated much more attractive than when wearing other colors. The men were asked such questions as, “If you had $100 to spend on a date with this girl, how much would you spend”, as well as, “Would you take her to a party?” Interestingly, this change in level of attraction was only registered among men. But the colour fascination only rests with Men. Women on the other hand when responding to the same study, viewed the lady in the photos at the same level of attraction regardless of color. So, apparently red is only effective in attracting men. Research also indicates that the results of the study may stem from deep biological roots in the male psyche. For example, certain non-human female primates will redden when nearing ovulation, signaling, and sexually attracting their male counterparts. Luckily for women it’s simpler – You don’t have to go around trying to blush or ovulate all the time. Just put on that red skirt!
