Golf Tips - How To Warm Up Before A Game

Sports,Business,Advertising
If you’ve ever been to watch a professional golf tournament (and I recommend you do), the best place to head to first of all is the practice area to see them warming up. What you’ll see is that the pro’s use every club in the bag to warm up starting with some wedge shots and moving all the way through to the driver. Following this they head to the chipping green and then the putting green.

In an ideal world that is what you should also be doing, but amateur golferscan rarely do this for a number of reasons:-

1. They don’t have enough time

2. There isn’t a practice range at their golf course

3. There isn’t a practice putting green at their golf course

What Is The Most Effective Way To Use Your Warm Up Time?

Of course the best way to warm up is like the pro’s do, but that’s not always possible for the reasons listed above. So – assuming your time is limited what is the most effective use of your warm-up time.

Should you head for the driving range or head to the putting green?

I highly recommend that you head for the putting green. This is for a number of reasons:

1. You need to get a feel for the greens

2. You can warm up your full swing by stretching, swinging some clubs on the first tee or even better take two clubs and swing them together

3. Holing some putts will give you CONFIDENCE. This is the key to using your warm-up time effectively. You want to walk to the first tee and face your first short putt on the first green with confidence

Once you arrive to the practice green this is how you should warm up.

Firstly hit some long putts. This will give you a feel for the greens and also you’ll be able to see how fast the greens are running (assuming the practice green is the same speed as the greens on the course).

Next hit some short putts – like really short putts. This will give you confidence.

Finally take one ball and work on some two putts using 100% the same routine as you’ll be using on the golf course. This is to get you into the routine of using your pre-shot routine.

And lastly, but also very importantly!

Walk To The First Tee With Confidence – Head Held High and With A Purpose In Your Stride

I’ve seen many amateurs waste valuable practice time which has made them nervous on the first tee – and rightly so! If they’ve just been to the practice green and hit some ‘random’ putts and without holing any putts at all. This cannot give them confidence.

The aim of your warm-up time is to give you confidence and get yourself into the right frame of mind as you reach the first tee. That is why this golf tip is so valuable even though I haven’t focused on specific swing or putting techniques in this article.
