They are required to be able to translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their respective expanded forms. Experienced transcriptionists can also spot mistakes in a medical report and correct those mistakes Medical transcriptionists are also expected to comply with very specific standards when it comes to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for keeping patient information confidential. Their ability to understand and correctly transcribe patient assessments and treatments reduces the chance of patients receiving ineffective or even harmful treatment, which makes this job something, that should be taken incredibly seriously.
