Take Good Care of Your Handmade Rugs by Properly Cleaning and Washing Them

Home Improvement
You may resent doing it but there is no escape. Your handmade rugs are going to get dirty and you will have to wash and clean them anyhow. Else, the dirt gradually creeps into the rug pile finishing it off slowly like a termite. All the sand that gets trapped in the pile acts as an abrasive and rubs against the pile fibers shortening the life of the mattress. Much to your dismay, you may also find pet dander and stains on it.

Cleaning happens eventually. And there are ways of doing so.

The very first step you need to take to clean Handmade Rugs is to remove all the sand and soot from the base of the pile. Skipping this step invariably destroys the effect of the impending steps. It is hardest, consumes the most time, yet cannot be ignored and has to be done anyhow. The labor is intensive and taxing.

You put the mattress face down and use a heavy commercial beater vacuum which is applied to the back of the mattress. Its vibration back and forth pushes the sand down away from the pile base.

In case your handmade Rugs have urine stains on them, first soak the same in water. The first step is to release the urine from the water so that it can be set up for a proper wash. Depending on how deep the urine stains are, the process of soaking can stretch to 48 hours. Once soaked, the mattress is taken out of the water and hung vertically for 48 hours to dry it completely.

Next in line while cleaning handmade rugs is using a special medium soft bristle brush with a special carpet shampoo, designed categorically for minimum wetting and hand scrubbing the back side of the mattress. The idea behind this is to use the shampoo suds and once done, the carpet is hung vertically for 2-3 hours.

After drying the back side the same procedure has to be repeated on the front side as well. Scrubbing only happens when all the stains from the rug have been taken off. One ought to use robust back and forth movements to scrub the pile clean. Once done, it is again hung vertically for 48 hours.

After drying the rug, the final step would be to vacuum the front side and perform a comprehensive inspection for possible wool particles that often get stuck or some lingering stains. There may be need for another scrubbing if the stains still hang on.

Perform these steps and you have an outstandingly clean looking mattress. Yes, the process is difficult. Yes, it consumes a lot of time. But eventually, every bit of the effort going into its cleaning is worth it. You can easily have it for 6 to 7 years and every day when your gaze falls on it, you see a clean mattress worthy of having spread out on the floor.

Maintain the cleaning procedure and your rug will automatically take care of itself.
