The PING G20 Irons hybrid utility club has a hard act to follow. We really liked the G15 hybrid as it was the best driving iron style hybrid in the market so we were intrigued to how the G20 version had been improved. Now the G15 was a little visually challenged and despite its great performance it looked a bit toe heavy at address. Thankfully the G20 looks much better and the shallow face and lower crown give you a much more balanced impression at address. The shorter head looks more compact generally and we think this will appeal to more golfers. What will also appeal is the performance which was excellent from the fairway and the rough. The feel was very good and the penetrating trajectory was higher than an iron but lower than more wood style hybrids. For those who prefer a hybrid to look and perform a little more like an iron then the G20 will be right up your street and it is definitely worth upgrading your G15 hybrids if you have some. Available in 5 lofts from 17 to 31 degrees the G20 is easily blended into any set of irons and comes with a TFC 169F graphite shaft in standard or a Tour version for a slightly lower ball flight. The sound and feel of the Ping G20 irons at impact were every bit as good as the G15 and the flight was maybe slightly higher thanks to the extra weight in the sole. However get custom fitted by Ping to and you will get a set of G20 irons that will help you get the distance and trajectory to suit your game. The G20s come in 3 iron to lob wedge or you can blend in the excellent G20 hybrid instead of the long irons. There are four flexes of shaft in either the TFC 169i graphite shafts or a new CFS steel shaft for ‘control, feel and stability ’ which was lovely to hit. Overall the G20 iron is a bit more evolution than revolution, but this is still going to be one of the best irons in the market for mid-handicappers. Some golf enthusiasts that,Had the G15s previous to this and lately drifted to Mizuno 800 Pros (for the feel) but felt I was missing a few greens because of slight mis-hits. Switched to the G20s and after hundreds of range balls and five rounds, must say the evolution of their G series continues to be great! As advertised, they are CONSISTENT, straight, high and the new CFS shaft never balloons on me like the AWT had. Just went all G20 this week with the driver,woods and just dumped my TM Ghost Maranello putter for the new Anser milled putter and the Eye2 XG wedge. Now I have to stay off the Golf sites as I can’t imagine my bag getting any better then this (for at least a product cycle!) Two thumbs up!
