The Apples in Stereo is a good point to ponder. You see, the Apples in Stereo is one of the most famous American indie rock bands. This band is associated with the innovative group of bands called the 'Elephant Six Collective'. Robert Schneider, lead vocalist/guitarist of this band writes the majority of the band's music and lyrics. The Apples in Stereo is to a large extent a product of this great musician. Apart from Robert Schneider, the Apples in Stereo now also includes other members such as Eric Allen (bass), John Hill (rhythm guitar), John Dufilho (drums) and Bill Doss (keyboards). The band is best known for their peppy, catchy and bright lyrics and pop/rock sound of the 60s. These often make listeners draw a comparison to the Velvet Underground, the Beatles and the Beach Boys. The release of New Magnetic Wonder by this band had invoked a comparison with the famous band, Electric Light Orchestra. The Apples in Stereo was formed in 1992. This was just after Robert Schneider went to attend university at Boulder, Colorado from Ruston, Louisiana. Originally the band consisted of the following members: Robert Schneider (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jim McIntyre (bass, backing vocals), Hilarie Sidney (drums, vocals), and Chris Parfitt (guitar). The first release of the band was the Tidal Wave EP. This was a great success as nearly 500 copies of it were sold. Along with this was also a twelve-page illustrated booklet, stickers and a poster. The Elephant 6 Recording Company thus made its first official release. The band saw one of its members, Chris Parfitt, leave the band at the end of 1993. He then went on to form a band of his own called 'Vince Mole and His Calcium Orchestra'. It was then that John Hill, a guitarist, backing vocals and also a part of Dressy Bessy, joined the Apples in Stereo. A couple of tracks were recorded which were released with other bands as split singles. One of the split single was with the band, The Olivia Tremor Control, and was released on Small-Fi Records. Yet another one was with The Heartworms released on Wurlitzer Jukebox. The band made its third split single with Sportsguitar which was released on 100 Guitar Mania. Fun Trick Noisemaker, the first album of the Apples in Stereo was released in 1995. It includes versions of a couple of EP tracks and early singles which are re-recorded. Most of the part of the album had recording as a trio. Jim McIntyre left the band part-way through. In 1996, another album called the Science Faire was released. This album contained a collection of early single releases. It also had the instrumental To Love the Vibration Of the Bulb which was unreleased previously. The Velocity of Sound is the latest album of the Apples in Stereo. It was simultaneously released in three parts of the world, i.e. in US, Japan and Europe, in October 2002. In each of these parts, the album bore different covers. Apples in Stereo saw great sale and fame with their latest album, which was quite a hit. The Apples in Stereo - what say?!
