The mission of the Arya Samaj as established by Maharishi Swami Dayanand with ten principles serves as an ideal example of the ancient Vedic way of life. The first five principles set the framework for the goal of one’s life, and remind us of our obeisance to God, who, through the Vedas bestowed upon us the wisdom, and truthfulness to obey the Laws of Righteousness (Dharma). The last five principles establish the universal values that everyone craves. Education and knowledge helps to dispel ignorance and bring about love and justice in one’s daily dealings with their fellow human beings the entire universe. In 1875, he established the Arya Samaj with the clarion call of “BACK TO THE VEDAS”. Swamiji motto “KRINVANTO VISHWAM ARYAM-MAKE THE UNIVERSE NOBLE” envisioned a perfect world for all mankind in which an advanced civilization would prosper and flourish. He darted courageously with magnanimity, vigor and zeal thus re-energizing wisdom, truth and Dharma among the noble and impoverished alike. He and the Arya Samaj single-handedly plucked Vedic Dharma from the brink of annihilation and restored it triumphantly into‘life nourishing nectar’ for everyone all over the world to enjoy. The Arya Samaj has three ways of looking at various problems: (i) From the national point of view; (ii) from the Hindu point of view; (iii) and from the universal or international point of view. As laid down by the founder (Maharshi Dayananda), the Arya Samaj aims at serving the whole world. The tenets of the Vedas and the subsequent Vedic philosophy have in them a universal appeal. The Arya Samaj, in fact, neither supports, nor it opposes any organized religion. It is neither pro-Hindu, nor anti-Muslim, or anti-Christian. The Arya Samaj stands against untruth, pollution, hypocrisy, superstition or credulity wherever and in whatever form they exist. The sectarian religions are related to Dharma as follows: Dharma + Pollution = Sectarian religion. In other words, we have following equation: The Vedic Dharma + Superstition = Hinduism. Maharishi Dayanand and the Arya Samaj brought credibility and a re-awakening of faith, selflessness knowledge back to us in the form of logic and scientific technology. Scholars, intellectuals and philosophers from different nationalities were attracted by his shrewd proliferation of sacrosanct Vedas.he core element of the mission of Arya Samaj is that of reform of Hinduism. The community of the Arya Samaj must have clarity on this subject. In performing its reform mission, the members of the Arya Samaj – leaders and Pandits included – must strike a balanced, sensitive approach to reform. In fear of violating “the politics of multi-faith tolerance”, we must not fail to address the fallacy of Blind Faith and Murti Puja.
