Defining Your Business Goals This is the first step in building a website. Decide what exactly is your goal and how do you want to achieve it. See if the time and investment to be spent on this new project is really worth it. Without a clear understanding of your strength and weakness, you cannot succeed. Defining Your Project Plan Here you define the strategy and plan to achieve the goal. It has to be a focused and well thought out phase as everything could go wrong if the plan is flawed. Ensure that you have enough time and resource to sustain the project over time. Defining the Look And Feel This is the first actual development phase in the whole process where you choose the template on which the design is based. It mainly consists of 3 main parts. Design Elements, Layout Options and Features & Functionality Defining Content and Navigation Once the graphical design and layout is done, work on the content and navigation of the website. Decide how the website has to be structured to make it easy for navigation and search engine optimization process. Features and Functionality The next step is to make your website filled with features and functionality. Joomla supports over 4000 extensions, with more extensions being added daily. These extensions add a lot of functionality which is not otherwise available. Installation and Configuration Once the above steps are completed you can now go on with the installation and configuration process. Automated tools are provided by some ISPs to install Joomla, but the most preferred way is to get the latest version directly from Joomla.org site and install it manually. Install your extensions as well. Populate Your Joomla Web Site with Content This is the final step where you have to populate your website with quality content. You could find a lot of tutorials online to guide you on content management technique. The usability and ease of navigation of your website is reflected here during the content population stage.
