There are an infinite number of ways you can spend the season of spring, especially if the purpose is full enjoyment of it. But while others get ready for the season of blooming flowers in a passive sense, you can go walk the proactive path by getting creative. One great way to do this is by designing and creating your own spring-themed wind chimes. On their own (even if you would just buy it from some online shop or the neighborhood arts and crafts store), wind chimes are a good addition to your home or garden decor, regardless of the season. Having said that, however, there is something “magical” about them that makes them perfect for the spring season. They produce, for instance, the kind of music one usually associates with whimsy. You hear wind chime sing from somewhere, and you are easily lulled to daydreaming. Whatever stressful day you are trying to endure, everything just seems lighter, as if a voice somewhere whispers, “Everything will be alright.” Indeed, wind chimes have that magic. And such magic even becomes more powerful during certain seasons, such as spring. The good thing is that you can have a direct, active hand in propagating this magic: you can create your own wind chimes. Making wind chimes to greet the spring is easy. It is by no means rocket science. As long as you keep in mind certain principles of design and functionality regarding the structure of wind chimes, you can create a whole batch of them without breaking a sweat. You need strings, glue, metal tubes, and your very own imagination. Moreover, you do not even have to go anywhere else to gather materials for your wind chime: depending on your creativity, you can use readily available stuff you can easily find in your garden or inside your house. If you like to create something “natural” looking, use pebbles, stones, or certain twigs to construct your wind chime. You can also look at your kitchen and see which of the stuff there you can recycle and use: most of the plastic containers that used to store our food are disposable and hence can be reused to serve a happier purpose. The only things you may have to buy are the metal parts—the “singing” parts—and these should not be so difficult to find. Moreover, there are also arts and crafts stores that sell wind chimes kits—just like the usual airplane model or electronic do-it-yourself kits, wind chime kits contain everything you need—you simply have to read and follow the instructions, glue the different parts together, and voila! Probably the only “challenging” part would be choosing from a dizzying array of designs and possibilities, all the while keeping in mind not to choose something that would not blend well with the overall design of your home or your garden. The only downside is that such a kit for the easy construction of wind chimes sort of limits your creativity—the design and choice of materials are already prepared for you, and the only input you need (just so you can say you “made” it) is applying glue to the right places and sticking the parts together. However, do not let that stop you from getting full blown creative: you can mix and match, and if the contents of a wind chimes kit do not seem to be sufficient for what you have in mind, feel free to subtract or add elements until you feel you have sufficiently done your creative part. Another great thing about wind chimes, especially during a sun-drenched season like the spring, is that they not only “capture” the wind, but also reflect (depending on the materials and design) sunlight. This could create pretty interesting results, especially if you carefully place them at certain strategic spots in or around the house or on the periphery of your outdoor garden. Crafting your own wind chimes is one of the best ways you can prepare for spring. There is going to be a lot of breezes, much of which would be redolent with natural fragrances, and what better way to further enrich the experience than adding another dimension of beauty to it all. Wind chimes enable the wind to sing, and if there is anything our childhood memories tell us, it is that there is nothing to lose and much to gain from making memorable memories of the spring season.
